Katharine Berry can’t go on the main Second Life grid according to the Second Life TOS, but but that hasn’t stopped her from developing a client for Second Life entirely in Ajax.

It's called AjaxLife, runs in the browser, and no additional software installation is required.

AjaxLife offers a full list of features including teleporting, basic map, inventory, person search and chat.

In Katharine's words:
"Due to some combination of boredom, wanting to talk to people in SL, and inspiration from a vague memory of something Interfect Sonic did, I decided to start work on an AJAX based SL client. It’s still under heavy development, but the result so far is an application/page/site called AjaxLife."

She was inspired by libsecondlife, an open source project which aims to pinpoint how Second Life’s client and servers communicate. The application was developed using a well-known Ajax framework.

Impressive. Katharine’s blog is here.
