The city of Ys and the legend of Tristan and Iseult |
Ile Tristan (the island of Tristan) just off Douarnenez (Bretagne, northwestern France) has a mysterious past, linked to the legend of Tristan and Iseult. It's on the right, in the image above.
Beneath Douarnenez Bay is also believed to lie the legendary city of Ys, of Breton folklore. According to some versions of the legend, Ys was built below sea level, and most versions of the legend place it right in the Douarnenez Bay.
