A surfer's heaven

Video - Places - Mundaka. A surfer's heaven

Mundaka is a little town in the Basque Country, not far from the French border, and not exactly easy to find. A lot of tourist maps don't even mention it.

The name of the town has Danish origin, as the Vikings arrived there about 900 years ago.

Mundaka has been one of 11 stops on the World Championship Surfing Tour and it is the venue each October for the Billabong Pro.

The director of the tournament competition is Australian surfer Craig Sage. He went to Mundaka 25 years ago and didn't really leave. He married a local, they have two children and he runs the local surf shop.

The marker on this map shows the plane's position.
