The Exponential Function

The most important video you'll ever see

Just suppose that we are all bacterias living in a bottle, and that our population doubles every minute. And that starting with an empty bottle at 11:00, the bottle fills up at 12:00.

Let's also suppose that at 11:59 we start a search for new bottles, and we find 3 other bottles. That's amazing! Now we have 4 times the initial space to grow! Well, the second bottle will be filled up at 12:01, and at 12:02 the history of our species is over.

Now, if someone tells you that your need for new resources grows at a fixed rate of 7% per year, you know what that means? That it doubles in 10 years - you calculate that with 70/(growth rate.)
