Video - Not only Second Life

Croquet features a peer-based network architecture

Croquet is a new open source software development environment.

It allows the creation of online applications and metaverses in a collaborative, multi-user environment.

Croquet features a peer-based network architecture that supports communication, collaboration, resource sharing, and synchronous computation between multiple users on multiple devices.

And yes, it's all open source. This is the link to the project page.
