Video - Bruce Sterling on Spimes

Three videos recorded in Turin, Italy, in April 2008

The American science fiction author Bruce Sterling, in August 2004, suggested a type of technological device that, through pervasive RFID and GPS tracking, could track its history of use and interact with the world.

He called it "Spime", that is an object precisely located in SPace and tIME.

The applications of such devices could go from CO2 emissions monitoring (giving to every person the power to measure the CO2 levels in every moment of their life) to space-and-time tracking of objects. Spimes could enable individuals as well as businesses and institutions to sense, track, and understand the environment around us. They can work together in a network, being interconnected through the Internet.

In these three videos recorded in Turin, Italy, in April 2008, Bruce Sterling talks about Spimes, the future of technology, the Singularity, AI, Bioinformatics... don't miss this!

The interviewer, David Orban, is the cofounder (together with Leandro Agrņ and Roberto Ostinelli) and chief evangelist of WideTag/OpenSpime, a new technology startup that was born to accept the challenge proposed by Bruce Sterling of creating Spimes.
