• This video shows the investigation of a novel minimalistic, dynamic climbing robot which can climb up tubes of different shapes using a simple dc motor. The motor moves an eccentric mass in a constant velocity. The location of the eccentric mass relative to the contact point determines the stability and the direction of the climbing motion. We present the analysis of this mechanism, simulation and experimental results. Video by Amir Degani, Siyuan Feng, Howie Choset, and Matthew T. Mason from the robotics institute at Carnegie Mellon University. Submitted to the IEEE International conference on robotics and automation, Anchorage, AK, May 2010 :

• No time is wasted. The bullet train is moving all the time. If there are 30 stations between Beijing and Guangzhou, just stopping and accelerating again at each station will waste both energy and time. A mere 5 min stop per station (elderly passengers cannot be hurried) will result in a total loss of 5 min x 30 stations or 2.5 hours of train journey time! :
